How to Use This Site

This website serves as the primary platform for researchers interested in the Health, Aging, and Retirement in Thailand (HART) study. The HART project is a longitudinal research initiative designed to provide critical insights into the lives of aging Thai individuals. The study collects extensive data on health, economic, and social living, and is modeled after successful international studies such as HRS (USA), SHARE (Europe), and ELSA (UK).

The HART study was initiated to respond to the health, economic, and social transition in Thailand and aims to support evidence-based policy and academic research. Data are collected in waves (2 years), with each wave including core interviews and specialized modules. The project is led by a multidisciplinary team of Thai and international researchers and operates under strict ethical guidelines.

To begin using this site, we encourage new users to explore the “About HART” section for background information and scientific leadership, and to view the “Introduction VDO” to understand the scope and significance of the project.

Comprehensive documentation for all HART data products is available in the Documentation (HART DATA) section. This section serves as a central resource hub for researchers seeking to understand the structure, methodology, and content of the HART study across various waves of data collection. It includes data codebooks, survey design and methodology documents, and wave-specific topic summaries.

Researchers new to the HART study are strongly encouraged to consult the following documents prior to working with the data:

  • Codebooks – for detailed information on variable definitions, variable names, formats, labels, and coding structures.
  • Methodology and Sampling Design – for understanding the research methodology, survey sampling design and weights, and data management guidelines.
  • Wave Noted – for identifying the scope and content of each wave.

The Data Products section provides access to various types of data collected by HART.

  • Public Data – are available free of charge to registered users and can be downloaded directly after logging in.
  • Sensitive Data – require special approval due to the inclusion of personally identifiable or health-related information.
  • Data Announcements – inform users of new releases, revisions, and important changes in data structure.

Before downloading or analyzing the data, users are encouraged to review the Citation Guidelines which appear as a pop-up on relevant pages. Proper citation ensures the continued support and recognition of the HART initiative.

This section includes the latest research outputs, media materials, and publication submissions related to HART data:

  • Publications – allows users to search for existing studies using HART data.
  • Media – includes infographics, press releases, and video content.
  • Submit Your Publication – invites researchers to contribute to the HART Bibliography by registering their published work that utilizes HART data.

Researchers are encouraged to browse through existing publications to better understand how HART data has been used in academic and policy contexts.
